When do I need a permit?
Permits are normally required for:
- any addition to an existing structure
- any new structure over 161 square feet (12x13)
- porches or decks over 24” high
- decks that are attached to existing building
- carports and garages
- structural alterations to existing building
- installing a woodstove or fireplace
- existing building adding windows or doors
- increase in size of existing windows/doors
- creating an apartment
- altering or adding any plumbing
- demolishing any structure over 108 square feet
- signs; All signs require a permit except for; signs for regulating traffic, signs in display windows, small signs displayed for directions of the public (directional restroom signs) or signs painted directly on a building
